Sodium Bicarbonate [ baking soda] is a fine white powder commonly added to ruminant feeds as a buffering agent to maintain optimum rumen function. Feeding sodium bicarbonate assists in raising rumen PH, reducing the incidence of acidosis resulting from animals being fed high carbohydrate cereal grain diets.
